John Lee Hooker Vinyl Discography Home

John Lee Hooker material appears on many label's various artists compilations.
Many of significance are listed in both the US and Foreign pressings sections of the site. In most cases those issues may be the only release of the material or the only release in LP format.
Others are simply reissues of John Lee's hits. For the time being this section will serve to at least document these releases. I am making no real attempt at present to catalog these but will post them here as they are obtained.

Argo/Chess "The Blues" Series.
Volumes 1-4 originally issued under the Argo label with volume 5 being released under the Cadet banner. All 5 would later be reissued by MCA/Chess. Hooker appears on all five releases.
The Best of Chess Blues- MCA/Chess

Soul Meeting-Saturday Night Hootenanny Style-Vee Jay
A relatively early compilation put out by Vee Jay pre-bankruptcy. Later, several best-of's and VA lps would be issued by both Vee Jay and a myriad of other companies hoping to cash in on the label's extensive vault of masters.
Atlantic Blues: Guitar-Atlantic
Hooker garners 2 tracks on this 2lp set, part of a series documenting Atlantic/ATCO's blues heritage.
Americas Musical Roots Americas Musical Roots-Festival 1008

An eclectic compilation from the vaults of Riverside. Hooker shares this release with a mix of artists from the Riverside roster including Sonny Terry, Memphis Slim, The Staple Singers as well as Bob Gibson, Oscar Brand and several other Riverside recording artists.
